Picture of the Day: Spectacular Fire Display Ignites Local Library Workshop
By Joshua Albert
The Dalles Ore., May 3, 2024 — The upper parking lot of our local library transformed into a vibrant stage for an exclusive Fire Poi training session and performance on May 2, at 7:30 p.m.
Led by poi expert Pollyanna Lind, twelve fortunate participants, ranging from ages 11 to adults, delved into the dynamic art of poi spinning. The workshop provided a safe and engaging introduction to this captivating art form, with no actual fire involved, making it accessible to beginners and enthusiasts alike.
Poi means the physical objects used by the dancers, the choreography itself, or the accompanying music.
Pollyanna, who has over 24 years of experience in performing fire poi, including her initial training in New Zealand, shared her expertise with the local community. Now a resident of The Dalles, Pollyanna has dedicated nearly two decades to teaching both children and adults how to spin poi and fire dance.
The evening concluded with a mesmerizing performance by Pollyanna Lind, showcasing the skills and techniques imparted during the workshop. This event not only highlighted the excitement and physical benefits of poi but also brought together community members in a unique and memorable way.
