Pioneer Paint: Monochrome comes with 3-man crew
The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 22, 2024 — Some fine ladder work was afoot downtown The Dalles today as the Pioneer Building is getting a monochromatic makeover.
Betanzos NW Construction of Portland is painting the building in grays, blacks, and whites.
This morning they were working around the west-facing side of the building as they were painting the window trim black. The body of the first floor will be gray with black trim the body of the second floor will be white and the awnings will be painted black.
Antonio Betanzos Cruz said he was unsure on the timing of the development of the second floor but said that work may be coming later this year.
The building was purchased in September 2022 for $750,000. New owners Brandon Rush and Anthony McNamara of Vancouver, Wash., applied for and received approval from the city to convert the second-floor office space into “residential apartment units of varying size” in Jan. 2023.
City leaders have pointed out these types of improvements for years as a great way to pump the economy and attract more retail shoppers to the downtown district while also addressing the major housing shortage in The Dalles.
