The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 25, 2025 — Authorities have identified the human remains discovered in a storage unit in The Dalles as those of a 39-year-old woman and arrested a man of interest in connection with the case, according to a press release from The Dalles Police Department.

The Dalles Police confirmed Monday that the remains were identified as Meihong He, known to friends as “Kiki.” She was a resident of the Mid-Columbia area and originally from China. Her next of kin has been notified.

The remains were found July 29 inside a container in a U-Haul storage unit on West Sixth Street after a buyer who had purchased the abandoned locker called police to report a suspicious box. Responding officers quickly secured the scene, and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab transported the remains to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas for autopsy and identification.

Investigators with the Mid-Columbia Major Crimes Team — a regional task force including police from The Dalles, Hood River, and multiple county sheriff’s offices — launched a wide-ranging investigation across Oregon, Washington, Utah, Nevada and California.
