The Dalles, Ore., Jan. 9, 2025 — Multiple fire engines could be heard called out with sirens and horns blaring on Thursday night as a fire burned through a shed on on East 16th Street, at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue team quickly responded, and arrived to a fire behind a house at the corner of East 16th and Quinton streets.

They quickly realized that a person was inside the home. He was promptly and safely evacuated from danger by Firemen upon arrival.

The fire was brewing from within the large backyard shed. It consumed the contents within and damaged a nearby Volvo.

Due to the departments timely arrival and fast work, however, the fire was put out before it rushed the short distance to the house or further damaged the property or surrounding properties.

Mid-Columbia Division Chief Adam Cole stated that the fire investigation is still continuing, but gives very positive shout-outs to the department for their good and efficient work.

The street and sidewalk nearby were lightly dusted with ash this morning, but stretch of road further down and the surrounding area look unaffected and still stood touched by Oregon’s bright sun.

The fire area is being cleaned and investigated for clues of the ignition.
