Calling all cyclists! Ride the Rapids Deschutes River, a fundraiser cycling event that debuted in South Wasco County in 2021, is back in Tygh Valley on Saturday, May 6th!

Brought to you by Hood to Coast Productions, Ride the Rapids features 3 spectacular routes, each one winding along the  Deschutes River, climbing to beautiful vistas and showing off incredible mountain views. The event  will start and finish at the Wasco County Fairgrounds, 81849 Fairgrounds Rd, in Tygh Valley. Ride  the Rapids is a fundraiser for local youth sports and activities, and this year funds will go towards  Maupin’s new Deschutes River Athletic Complex, a world-class track & field facility that is a just a  few projects shy of completion.

Three course distances - a 20 miles, 39 miles and 61 miles, accommodate riders of every experience  level. The 20 mile route follows the Deschutes River for the entire second half and is a perfect  choice for beginners and families. A shuttle will provide transportation back to the fairgrounds. The  39 mile ride goes through the heart of Maupin, climbs out of the canyon and up to Juniper Flats for  Cascade Mountain views, and then back down to the fairgrounds. The 60 mile or “Metric Century”  ride, climbs out of Tygh Valley and around Pine Hollow Reservoir, revealing stunning views of Mt.  Hood, then follows a loop passing White River Falls, Sherar’s Falls and along the Deschutes River  before a 3 mile climb out of Maupin and a final descent to the fairgrounds.

Riders will arrive back to the fairgrounds to music, food, beer, and optional RV or tent camping. Call the camp host at 541-483-2288 to make reservations. Registration fees are $20 for youth riders,  with no fundraising minimum and $50 for adults with a $100 fundraiser minimum. Funds support the mission of the Maupin Area Chamber Endowment and will be donated to the Deschutes River Athletic Complex. Contributors will receive a donation receipt with the Tax-ID  following their donation.
