Riders in the Sky Return to Granada Theatre for Unforgettable Western Experience
From The Granada Theatre:
By Chuck Gomez
The Dalles Ore., April 29, 2024 — The Historic Granada Theatre is proud to welcome The Riders in the Sky back to the Historic Granada Theatre stage. The best in Western music since 1977. Award-winning harmonies, wacky Western wit, and high-yodeling adventures. “It’s the Cowboy Way!”
Ranger Doug is the guitarist who yodels and sings lead and baritone vocals. Too Slim is the upright “bunkhouse” bassist. Woody Paul is the “King of the Cowboy Fiddlers,” and sings lead and tenor vocals. Last is Joey the “CowPolka King” who plays this accordion. Riders in The Sky has recorded over 40 albums and toured across the world, including all 50 states.
The group combines American Western music and comedy that appeals to audiences of all ages. Riders in the Sky originated 45 years ago in a very different world. These young men wanted to keep a special music alive. They believed in preserving the heritage of Western music, as well as creating original Western music for new generations to continue the tradition.
Their family-friendly style also appeals to children, exemplified in their recordings for Disney and Pixar. They have won two Grammy awards for children’s albums. One was for a tie-in album around the characters of “Toy Story 2” called “Woody’s Roundup: A Rootin’ Tootin’ Collection of Woody’s Favorite Songs” and the other was for “Monsters, Inc. Scream Factory Favorites.” They also wrote and performed music for Pixar’s short film “For the Birds.”
