Leah McInnes and her dog Mags take a walk down the newly resealed Riverfront Trail - a $238,000 project in the midst of being completed. “It’s beautiful,” she said, noting the vast variety of scenery the trail takes in.

Leah McInnes and her dog Mags, a Black Mouth Cur, take a walk along Riverfront trail on Thursday morning. The trail has been resealed from the bridge over Chenoweth Creek to The Dalles Marina, according to Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation Executive Director Scott Baker.

Additional repairs and sealing are set to occur on the section between Chenoweth Creek and the Discovery Center in weeks to come.

Bruce Lumper who sits on the nonprofit  Riverfront Trail Committee said the money for repairs was raised through $38,000 in donations. The City of the Dalles contributed $100,000, Northern Wasco County PUD chipped in $50,000 and the Port of The Dalles, $50,000. In addition, the Bonneville Power Administration has agreed to pay for trail repairs for damage done while replacing power poles near the railway underpass tunnel near the Discovery Center.

In-kind donations are also stretching the money. Tenneson Engineering is donating 50 percent; Crestline Construction, 25 percent; Seal Kote, 33 percent; Munson Paving, 100 percent.

“It’s really beautiful and so long,” said McInnes of the seven-mile trail. “There’s all types of scenery and the trail is wide enough to share with bicyclers. And it was really thoughtful where they chose to place the benches.”
