A-05 Annex Team 6381, a robotics team from Hood River Valley High School gave a public demonstration of ‘Tom’ the robot at First Friday in Hood River on September 2nd, 2022.

The team ranked 32nd in the PNW district at the First Robotics Competition last season and received the Chairman’s Award.

“We are about twenty members,” said Lucas Elliott, Outreach Captain. Elliott became a Dean’s List Finalist during the 2022 season.

The robots compete on how well they complete tasks such as shooting hoops, climbing monkey bars and more. Click here to watch a video of the robot shooting hoops.

Ethan Elliott, Kylin Elliot, and Ethan Ready of HRV Robotics.

“It changes every year,” said Elliott.

“We have a build season every year, starting in January and ending in February, where we have six weeks to build the robot and we program it all ourselves.”

“We do get a lot of help from mentors in our community but we do the build,” said Elliott.

The robot showcased at the event also has a name: Tom.

The robot is named after the cartoon Tom and Jerry.

The robot features a fully modular Mk4 swerve drive with neo brushless motors, custom welded steel hanger bars attached to cable using 2 64:1 gearboxes, custom milled aluminum cams attached to springs to lift hanger bars, and a limelight camera and three ball auto.

Folks in the crowd at First Friday were invited to watch a demonstration on Tom.
