Rowena Benjamin's Pumpkin Cheesecake wins over judges at TD Farmers' Market
This Pumpkin Cheesecake proved truly irresistible. It’s so fine, we know where the pumpkin went.
The Dalles, Ore., Oct. 14, 2023 - Judges of the dessert contest at the last Farmers’ Market of the Season in The Dalles had their work cut out for them this morning - literally. Beautiful slices of pie, cheesecake, breads, and cupcakes were pilled high on their tasty tables.
Rough Duty - Dessert Judges Ken Talley, Jeff Wavrunek and Rachel Cole Miller at The Dalles Farmer’s Market had to make their way through dozens of delectables on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Rachel Cole Miller said she was up for the task.
“I love desserts,” she said, noting she was quick to volunteer to be a judge.
Ken Talley and Jeff Wavrunek also got in on the tasting and scoring.
For Miller, it was a tough call to make as a Pumpkin Pecan Bread, Pumpkin Chai Spice Cupcakes were both so good.
But there can only be one winner, and judges swung for the Pumpkin Cheesecake made by Rowena Benjamin. It took first place.
Pumpkin Cheesecake goes all the way.
No measurements - but here is a good start on deconstructing the winner.
In second place were the Pumpkin Chai Spice Cupcakes made by Kathleen Lutz. And Carolyn Wright brought in a mouth-watering Pumpkin Pecan Pie for third.

The Contest provided a nice cap for a successful season at the market which is held at City Park at fifth and Union streets.
The place was packed as locals filled their bags with local produce and other goodies.
Good Gourd - shoppers were happy carrying away these flat beauties for a festive table.
