Brave New Year- The Dry Hollow Library is gearing up for the Lunar/Chinese New Year which began on Feb. 1.Help us all say goodbye to the Ox and welcome in the year of the Tiger! In Chinese culture, the tiger is the symbol of bravery, wisdom and strength.

The Dalles Middle School

The TDMS Wildcat wrestling team has their first home meet tomorrow, Wednesday 2/2. In their last match, the wrestlers worked hard! Despite losing a week of practice, they showed tremendous amounts of heart and courage as they competed with Hood River. They compiled several victories and hard-fought battles with close decisions.

In social studies, 8th graders are looking at the Declaration of Independence - and trying to decipher late 1700’s English. They are also studying the American Revolution and the ideas behind it.

In math, students are finishing a unit on systems of equations, while algebra students are studying linear equations. In English and Science, students are wrapping up a short story project and learning about atoms and the organization of the periodic table.

Over In Elementary…

Dry Hollow students share their thoughts on what it means to be a peacekeeper in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. See below as well. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Mrs. Ashbaugh's Kinder class and Mrs. McCollum's 1st grade class at Dry Hollow Elementary learned about, and celebrated, Martin Luther King, Jr. Students got to display their creations following the prompt “I will be a peacemaker…” and sharing their thoughts on what that means to them.  Here are some of the responses…

“I will be a peacemaker by… saying I can help you!”

“I will be a peacemaker by… by sharing”

“I will be a peacemaker by… helping clean the classroom!”

“I will be a peacemaker by… helping someone get up!”

Chenowith Elementary is Kicking off an Art project called “This is What Love Looks Like”.  Students will be creating art about what love looks like to them, either at home, at school, or wherever. Artwork will then be displayed at local businesses around town to help spread the love! Businesses can sign up to showcase their artwork, by contacting Mairead Beane Kelly at beanem@nwasco.k12.or.us.

Art will be displayed the week of Valentine's Day and will stay up as long as you would like!

Senior Scholarships are now up online! Applications can be found on the TDHS Website.  Most local scholarships are due by Feb. 28.

February is national Career and Technical Education or CTE month! Join us as we celebrate CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of technical programs and students across the country.  We will be sharing stories about our various CTE courses at TDHS over the month of February.
