Wamic, Ore., June 16, 2026 — The 2026 Sherman County 4-H Day Camp was held at the beautiful Camp Morrow lakeside facility outside Wamic in south Wasco County on Tuesday, June 19 (counselor training day), and Wednesday, June 10 and Thursday, June 11 (camper days). A total of 24 campers were registered and served by 14 teen counselors.

The focus of camp was on natural resources and being outdoors. Classes included stream wildlife, fossils and making casts, outdoors education, archery, and outdoor cooking. Nature- and camp-based crafts included soap stone carving, leathercraft, painting birdhouses, making S’mores bracelets, sand art, key chains, and decorating linen bags to hold all the treasures. From-scratch meals and snacks were served to the hungry campers, teens and staff. Free time included waterfront swimming and boating, water squirters, GaGa ball and Nine Square, mini golf, sand volleyball, basketball, and crafts.

All camp activities included flagpole gatherings and songs, tie dye shirts, a counselor hunt, tug o war, field games, skits and a dance party, and evening campfire time. Busing was provided to and from camp by Sherman Transit and North Wasco County School District 21. The Sherman County 4-H Association provided $30 scholarships to each camper, reducing camper cost to $20.

Every day the group was energetic and enthusiastic, and especially excited by swim and boat time on the waterfront. State 4-H staff who ran the archery class were lavish with their praise for the Sherman County campers and counselors, being impressed with everyone’s attention, engagement and cooperation.
