Bingen, WA (September 23, 2020) – Three local pizzerias are joining forces to support the collection of Community Needs Assessments now through November 10. Gorge residents who live or work in Klickitat or Skamania Counties, are encouraged to participate in the 10-minute survey for Washington Gorge Action Programs (WAGAP) and then enjoy a free slice of pizza at one of three local restaurants, Beneventi’s Pizza in Bingen, Andrew’s Pizza in Stevenson or Uncle Tony’s Pizza in Goldendale. Surveys are available in English and Spanish online at www.wagap.org or you can pick up a paper copy at one of WAGAP’s Offices in Bingen, Stevenson or Goldendale. “The pizza giveaway is a fun way to thank our community members who help us collect vital information,” said Jody O’Connor a local Evaluation and Needs Assessment specialist who is contracting with WAGAP to complete the assessment. She said the focus is to understand how coronavirus has changed our communities, to better understand local poverty issues and to see what the organization can do to improve well-being for everyone in the two counties. As a Community Action Agency, WAGAP is mandated to conduct a community assessment once every three years, to ensure that the organization’s goals stay aligned to the communities’ needs. Funding for programs comes from a mix of sources, including Federal, State and Local grants which have a variety of requirements to be eligible.

“Community participation in these assessments help WAGAP decide which programs need the greatest focus so we can serve as many residents as possible,” said Leslie Naramore, WAGAP’s Executive Director. She expressed her deep appreciation for all who participate in the assessment and to those local businesses that are helping to get the word out so that the organization can reach its goal to collect 400 surveys. She added, “We know they aren’t the most exciting thing you can do in a day, but they are essential to continuing our mission. Whether you utilize our services or not, we ask that you please fill out this survey and make your voice heard!”
