You know what they say. It takes a village.
Well and then some when you’re trying to catch a domesticated mini pig in East The Dalles.
Local police were on its trail after this little guy escaped from a home at Lambert and 16th streets and the chase eventually brought in neighbors with fishnets, animal carriers, treats. Police even used a little Smart Food.
Who can resist white cheddar popcorn? I know I can’t.
So, I joined in the hunt, which took about an hour and produced… well nothing but a lot of fun.
It all started around 9 a.m. this morning when officers began trying to corral the little guy at Morton and 10th streets as traffic might have harmed the spotted guy with a corkscrew tail.
The chase eventually led up Morton Street and as far as 12th Street, where he darted into a cherry orchard.
17-year-old Nathan Pyles attempted to catch it with a fishing net as his dad Erick and grandpa Frank and mother Heather tried to push the pig toward Nathan who was ready to capture it salmon style.
Nathan, a veteran of 4-H activity said the capture of an animal was a frequent feature of the fairs he attended. He also noted cows are a whole lot easier to retrieve.
Alas, the mini was not to be had - or at least not yet.
Karen Murray, who lives nearby and can be seen with the officer holding the animal carrier in the photo above, said she would call in an update to CCCNews if they are able to wrangle the little truffle sniffer.
