Winter's work comes fast with storm this morning

Mother Nature powder coated The Dalles this morning, Thursday, Feb. 11. Forecasters apparently pegged this one right with snow expected today and Friday. Accumulations could be between four to 10 inches in the next two days. And temperatures are predicted to drop into the 20s and stay there during the next three days. Roads were quite slick this morning before 9 a.m.

Jason Hinkle gives the chains on this wheel one last check at the Post Office in The Dalles this morning. He and his father Nolan showed up early to get the fleet ready for the snowstorm that started this morning at around 5 a.m. They were finished by 8:30 and Jason said he had to go back to his day job of installing and finishing a wood floor in White Salmon.

Nolan Hinkle and son Jason take a break after chaining up a dozen vehicles at the post office. “I thought I was done throwing chains,” Nolan, said, noting he used to drive trucks. But Jason’s contract to prepare the vehicles, sometimes requires some extra hands.

While chains were going on rigs behind the scene, Vince Anderson, 68, spreads ice melt on the sidewalks out front of the Post Office.
