At this point it appears that Songer is likely to win this race.
Although readers would be wise to note that the election has yet to be certified and additional postmarked votes may have yet to arrive at the County Auditor’s office.
Readers are asking: There’s not a lot of votes separating the candidates. Will they call for a recount?
The short answer: Probably not. The Klickitat County Auditor’s office has told CCCNews that Klickitat County is not currently on the state’s radar for a recount.
The long answer: In Washington a machine or manual recount can be required in non-statewide elections if the difference in the number of votes cast for the apparent winner and the closest defeated candidates is less than 150 votes and less than 0.25% difference. And since the voting gap in the Sheriff’s race is currently wider than 0.25% a recount is unlikely.
