Award Winning Play "Stop Kiss" Comes to Bingen March 8

By Bit Britches Productions and Edited by Cole Goodwin

Bingen, WA, February 20, 2024— Big Britches Productions will kick off its 2024 season with a gripping and thought-provoking and award winning play "Stop Kiss" by Diana Son on March 8, 2024.

Part romance, part tragedy, part societal reflection, and all drama “Stop Kiss” is a poignant and thought-provoking exploration of love, queer identity, and the consequences of a single moment of hate-motivated violence.

The story revolves around the evolving relationship between two women, Callie and Sara, who unexpectedly find themselves at the center of a violent hate crime after sharing their first kiss in New York City during the 1990’s. The play takes the audience on a journey with Callie and Sara through their trauma and recovery, to examine themes of human connection, self-discovery, self perception, culture, and the courage required to confront one's true feelings in the face of adversity and oppression. The narrative is told out of chronological order, weaving between the present and the past, to unravel the complexities of their connection and the impact of societal expectations.

The play, which originally debuted in New York in 1998, speaks to a difficult time in LGBTQ+ history following the AIDS crisis. But its messages still ring true today.

The one hour and 45 minute production is being directed by Tay Camille Lynne, and will be her debut production with Big Britches. Lynn's vision elevates the narrative, bringing it to life, and providing a powerful and immersive experience for theatergoers.

As the first show of the season, "Stop Kiss" sets the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable lineup from Big Britches Productions. The company has proved its committment to delivering quality performances that resonate with diverse audiences over the years, and "Stop Kiss" is a prime example of their breadth.

"We are thrilled to kick off our season with 'Stop Kiss,' a play that captures the complexities of human relationships," says Joe Garoutte, owner of Big Britches Productions. "Under Tay’s direction this cast is ready to bring a complicated and compelling story to life."

The cast features a blend of seasoned actors and rising stars, each contributing to the authenticity and emotional depth of the characters they portray. Audiences can expect a night of powerful storytelling, compelling acting, and moments that will linger long after the show is over.

"Stop Kiss" opens on March 8 at The Bingen Theater, with performances running through March 23. Audiences are advised that this play contains descriptions of assault and hate crime and is recommended for mature audiences.

Tickets are available for purchase on the Big Britches Productions website.
