StudioFit TD Emerges with New Partnership
By Tom Peterson
Two new partners and an infusion of energy have transformed Flow The Dalles Yoga Barre and Fitness into StudioFit TD in downtown The Dalles.
Hannah C. Mapes and Matt Eby have joined April Streeter and Nicole Ryan at the studio as partners. They each hold a 25 percent share in the business.
Eby is a personal trainer in physical fitness, and Mapes is strong on barre, and the pair were already instructing classes at Flow.
“They were logical partner choices,” said Streeter. “They bring two different perspectives.”
And their energy was welcome when fitness centers were closed for the second time during COVID in November.
“It gave the studio an injection of expertise, motivation, and forward motion,” Streeter said.
The change-up also made it clear that that the studio was on a slightly different track.
“We’ve come to realize that our mission and that of Flow Hood River are now complementary rather than an exact fit,” she said.
They are now embarking on a new identity as StudioFit TD, offering barre, strength, and yoga classes online and in studio.
Hood River Flow Yoga owner Stephanie Adams is continuing her studio at 2600 May St.
“Our goal is to deepen the connection with our members and the wider community by providing safe and healthy movement in a body-positive environment,” Streeter said.
“Flow Hood River remains at the heart of the Gorge’s yoga community from its new May Street location.”
Tough Year
Streeter and Ryan have come through a tough year with two lockdowns due to the coronavirus - one coming last spring and another that started In November.
“I give Stefanie Adams ( of Flow Yoga) a lot of credit,” Streeter said. “She helped us pull together to get a virtual studio going. It was a godsend. We were open for virtual classes on April 1.”
Streeter said The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce and other organizations also assisted with grants.
“That sparked our motivation and kept us going.”
10-Minute Workouts
Online workouts also sparked an idea with Streeter.
“The core of our membership is women in their most productive years and they are bearing the brunt of COVID,” she said. “And it’s affecting their workout time.”
Parents, during longer workouts, were being interrupted by their children. “It’s hard to work out when your kid is banging on the basement door,” she said.
However, shorter workouts, are easier to fit into a schedule without interruption.
In February StudioFit TD will launch a new 10-minute fitness program. Ten-minute fitness is a fantastic concept backed by a growing stack of research.
The gist?
We may need less of a time commitment to improve cardiovascular and neural health than we think. Energetic and fast-paced classes that advance our wellness and leave time to pursue the other areas of a balanced life. Ten-minute fitness is a welcome addition to the StudioFit lineup, offering a novel way to stay well that accommodates busy schedules.
The New York Times reported on the trend and value of such workouts in a recent story, Streeter said.
To celebrate the new StudioFit TD we are offering a free week of online and (limited number) in studio 10-minute fitness classes. Now's the moment! Join us. Let's have fun and get fit together.
