The Dalles, OR. October 9, 2023 - The Columbia Gorge Community College (CGCC) Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting CGCC student scholarships as they pursue career, education, and lifelong learning goals. The Foundation is thrilled to share the success of its 23rd Annual Founders Cup Golf Tournament, held September 9, 2023, at the Indian Creek Golf Course in Hood River, Oregon. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, participants, and volunteers the tournament doubled its net proceeds year over year. All of the funds go directly to CGCC student scholarships.
The tournament is run as a scramble with foursomes playing the best ball on each hole. The winning team, one of three assembled by former Foundation board member Richard Stillwell, took home one-of-a-kind trophies crafted in the CGCC Advanced Manufacturing shop. The 100 golfers enjoyed a day on the beautiful greens at Indian Creek Golf Course, bid for an array of silent auction items, and even competed to win a car in a hole-in-one drive. Mary Gumm, CGCC Foundation Board President, expressed her appreciation, saying, “We are honored by the incredible support our community demonstrated for this year’s golf tournament. It’s a testament to the dedication and passion they have for students of all ages investing in themselves and contributing to our community. The funds raised will allow us to grow our investment in student scholarships and student success.”
Highlights of the 2023 Founders Cup include:
Fundraising Success: Thanks to the overwhelming support of our sponsors, participants, and volunteers, this year’s tournament raised more than $20,000 for student scholarships
Community Engagement: The event attracted 100 golfers from across the region, strengthening ties with philanthropists, regional businesses, CGCC alumni, and more.
Sponsorship Impact: We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our generous sponsors, including Umpqua Bank, Underriner Ford Dealership, NW Natural, Beacon Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, Crestline Construction, Cumming Management Group, Arnerich Massena, Transact, OEG, Columbia Gorge Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Miller Nash, Slingshot, Opsis, Optimist Printing, and McDonald Food Service. Their generous contributions played a pivotal role in the tournament’s success.
