Wasco County Community Development is partnering with Columbia River Gorge Commission (CRGC) and USDA Forest Service staff to modernize disaster recovery in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. This collaboration aims to address the recovery needs following the Rowena, Burdoin, Broughton, and Tunnel Fires.

As residents return to areas impacted by the Rowena Fire, safety remains a top priority. The Oregon Department of Emergency Management (OEM), Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and Wasco County strongly recommend that property owners not perform cleanup themselves because of the serious toxic hazard threats posed by burned homes and outbuildings.

High winds gusting up to 40 today, June 16, continue to fan the flames as more than 700 fire personnel are now working the Rowena fire that has displaced hundreds who lived between Rowena and The Dalles.

While cooler temps are helping to keep the Rowena Fire in check, heavy winds hamper efforts to bring the blaze under control. More than 450 personnel are on the fire that has burned multiple home and displaced local families.
