Three robotics teams from The Dalles are gearing up to represent the Columbia Gorge area at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas this May, after successfully achieving their fundraising goal of more than $12,000 thanks to donations from the community and support from Google
The free two day workshop was focused on providing a unique hands-on opportunity for 6th-10th graders to dive into science, technology, engineering, and math and enjoy healthy breakfasts, lunchs and snacks catered by Bargeway Pub & Catering.
Sixteen local middle school and high school educators gained a greater understanding of career paths in Advanced Manufacturing, a prominent field in the Gorge region. Calling all families with children ages 12 and under! The 2022 Gorge STEM Fair is happening on Saturday, June 4th, 2022. This free, outdoor, family event centers on all things STEM in the Gorge, from making your own creations to learning about local companies and careers. Every booth has something hands-on for children and caregivers to explore together. STEM stands for “Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math;” skillsets that are naturally connected and increasingly crucial in our modern world.
Two The Dalles High School robotics teams battled it out at the Vex Robotics World Championship on May 5th, 6th, and 7th in Dallas, TX. Competition was fierce as 818 teams battled it out to become the Vex Robotics world champion. “Eleven teams from Oregon had qualified for the tournament but only three made it to the elimination round and our teams made up two of those three,” said Webber.
The 8th annual Oregon STEM Week is happening from May 14-22, 2022. STEM week is a week-long celebration of all things STE(A)M happening across Oregon and throughout the Columbia River Gorge!
Robotics isn’t what most people think of when it comes to a high school education but now, more than ever, classes like Charles Webber’s at TDHS, are of growing importance. By the time these students graduate in the next few years, over half of the available jobs around the globe will be in the STEM field.
