TD Detour Ahead on West Second - April 13

Crews started in on the West Second Street paving project in The Dalles.

Road Crew with The City of The Dalles Public Works Department were repaving West Second Street between Webber St. and Point S Tires this morning, Tuesday, April 13.

The westbound lane of Second Street is closed and vehicles were detoured onto Cherry Heights Road at The Dalles Skatepark. Businesses such as Point S and Columbia Gorge Affordable Homes can be reached by taking Cherry Heights to West Sixth Street to Webber and then heading east on Second past Casa El Mirador.

Westbound motorists on Interstate 84, using exit 84, are being flagged to a single lane next to the construction zone. Expect delays. Eastbound traffic on West Second is also being flagged as traffic going both directions are having to share a single lane.

Motorists, bicycles and pedestrians are asked to use detours around the work zone during work hours. The street will be reopened to the traveling public each evening.

The City’s Chris Kochis said they expected to finish the paving by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Business access will be open during construction.

The purpose of this project is to grind out and replace about a quarter-mile of the roadway. This street work is expected to restore the pavement structure and provide a smoother and safer roadway.
