TD Police Officer pleads guilty to fudging time cards, resigns from post

Dutton pays back department ‘in full,’ resigns from Police Department and surrenders his Oregon police certifications

Statement from Wasco County District Attorney Kara Davis:

The Dalles, Ore., June 3, 2025 — The Dalles City Police Officer Jeremy Dutton pled guilty and was sentenced in connection with charges of official misconduct on Monday, June 2.

Mr. Dutton, who has been on administrative leave since the inception of the case in March, reached a plea agreement that includes significant restitution and the relinquishment of his law enforcement certifications, Davis said.

As part of his plea agreement, Mr. Dutton paid restitution of more than $8,000 to the City of The Dalles. These funds represent money he received after submitting falsified time cards. The City of The Dalles agreed to accept these funds as part of a civil compromise.

In addition to full restitution, Mr. Dutton also pled guilty to Official Misconduct, Davis said. As terms of his probation, Mr. Dutton has agreed to resign from The Dalles City Police Department and surrender his certifications with the Oregon Bureau of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).

From CCCNews’ original story:

The investigation into Officer Dutton began after the City of The Dalles Police identified  discrepancies in their records.

Demonstrating a commitment to transparency and fairness, The  Dalles Police Department immediately requested the Oregon State Police to conduct an  independent investigation, which resulted in the charges against him.

Officer Jeremy Dutton was a 10-plus year member of The Dalles Police force.

According to the DA’s Information, Dutton allegedly committed first-degree theft of $1,000 or more from the City of The Dalles on four separate time periods between May 2023 and January 2025.

Dutton’s service in military impacts plea deal

"Mr. Dutton is a combat veteran, and my office maintains a strong veteran's policy," stated District Attorney Davis. "Any veteran without a previous record is offered the benefit of a civil compromise or diversion if available for the charges. Mr. Dutton was extended that courtesy. It was equally important that this case not be disregarded, which is why a conviction for official misconduct was pursued. The City of The Dalles and the Police Department were in agreement with the plea and deemed it a fair resolution."
