City Council hears kudos and warnings at June 9 meeting
Tim Schechtel
Flock Surveillance Cameras:
Tim Schechtel, a downtown business owner, raised concerns about privacy and potential misuse if the city were to adopt Flock surveillance systems. “This type of system can track license plates and share that data without permission. Local leadership should be forthright if approached by their sales agents.”
Judy Merrill
Bicycles and E-Scooters on Sidewalks:
Judy Merrill advocated for a city ordinance regulating bicycles, scooters and other wheeled devices on downtown sidewalks.“The goal is safety for all—pedestrians, riders, and visitors—especially in our increasingly busy downtown.”
Bob Kenyon
Hello, World!
The Grand Dalles Music Festival:
Bob Kenyon praised the success of the recent two-day Bluegrass music event organized by Jonathon Zilka and encouraged the city to consider it an annual tradition. “The place was packed two nights in a row—we’re calling it the first annual Grand Dalles Music Festival.”
Chip Wood
U.S. Immigration Enforcement Concerns:
Chip Wood urged city leaders to prepare for potential immigration enforcement activity and protect local agricultural workers and protestors. “We need to be proactive in a peaceful way. If ICE shows up here, it could devastate our local economy.”
