The Dalles Riverhawks varsity girls soccer team played the Redmond Panthers on Tuesday, March 30th at 6:30 p.m.

It was senior night, and the last home game for six teammates who have persevered together during the past year. The lights shone on them brightly as they lined up before the crowd and were acknowledged for their years of passion.

Then they went to work.

Seniors Courtney Hert, Zara Voodre, Hanani Andrade, Kierstin White, Iliana Moreno-Lopez, and Cadence Snyder had their last match in front of a hometown crowd.

And it was physical.

The first half was a close and hard-fought by both sides. They went back and forth for the first 15 minutes and kept the ball at midfield and kicked it out of bounds quite a bit.

The first goal came from Redmond at the 25-minute mark. The Dalles then came back and brought it across the field but could not seem to break loose for a scoring opportunity. That seemed to happen the whole game. They could bring it to the other side of the field, but Redmond would shut them down.

The rest of the first half was scoreless leaving Redmond up 1-0 at halftime.

The Dalles came in hot for the second half. The Riverhawks scored in the first 5 minutes, 30 seconds with senior Courtney Hert assisting senior Zara Voodre for a goal.

Things went downhill from there for the Hawks.

They were stymied against Redmonds’ offense and defense.

Redmond scored again at the 22-minute mark. The Dalles tried to come back with a goal of their own but could not get past midfield.

Redmond came back and was fouled by The Dalles. The Panthers were given a free kick from near midfield.

It was truly a phenomenal kick and not much The Dalles’s goalie could do as it went way over her head.

Redmond hit the back of the net for another goal.

The Dalles did their best to come back and played some great offense, but Redmond had their number defensively. The game ended with Redmond winning 3-1.

With that loss, The Dalles is now 4-3. They have an away game on Thursday, April 1st against rival Hood River Valley at 6:30 p.m.
