The Dalles boys basketball team played in their final home game of the season against the Ridgeview Ravens this past Tuesday in what was a dominant win.

On a huge night for seniors of the team and the team in general, the Hawks came out playing some fantastic basketball, winning the game with a score of 58-40.

For seniors David Tapia, Tristan Bass, Noah Kendall, and Jaxon Pullen this would be their last game in Kurtz Gym. They’ve given it their all in their four years with the high school’s basketball program. In their last season, it’s one of the best teams we’ve seen in years.

“All the support this year has been amazing,” said Tapia. “And for all the people to show up tonight on senior night was a great feeling.”

All that love and support fueled an exciting performance by the Hawks

The first quarter was all Riverhawks. They were able to score right off the bat and play some fantastic defense going on an 8-0 run in the first two minutes before Ridgeview was able to get a layup. The Hawks have passed the ball really well all year to get open opportunities, and this game was no different. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 22-11 with the Hawks up.

Andre Niko swats shot away in a block that made the crowd get loud.

The second quarter was dominated by the Hawks once again. Their defense was on lockdown, and their offense was hitting their shots. At the end of the first quarter, the Hawks stole the ball and made a great pass to hit a three-pointer to end the first half with momentum on their side. At halftime, the score was 39-19 with the Hawks holding a 20-point commanding lead.

Coming into the third, the Hawks were hoping to keep extending their lead and they did. The third was close in points with the Hawks scoring 11 and the Ravens scoring 10, but the Hawks had already built such a big lead and the Ravens failed to cut into it.

At the end of the third, the score was 50-29.

The fourth quarter was a slow one with both teams not doing much on the offensive side. The Ravens tried their best to make a comeback but fell short by 18 points as The Hawks clamped down on defense. The final buzzer sounded, and the Hawks won 58-40.

It was a huge win for league standings and the fact the Hawks lost to Ridgeview earlier in the season by 10.

Sophomores Henry Begay and Cooper led the Hawks in scoring, both putting up 10 points.

With only two games left in the season, this win was huge in keeping the Hawks third in their league and if they win out should remain there. That bodes well for the team that still has hope of post-season play.

The Hawks play away against Pendleton tonight, Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30.
