COMING SOON

The Dalles Art Center has installed two new concrete bases which will soon be home away from home for traveling sculptures which will hopefully visit TDAC in the near future, more details to come.

MacRae Wylde, a Hood River sculptor who has several sculptures in The Dalles including at the Wasco County Library and a new one at The Next Door, salvaged the 30x30x6 concrete blocks weighing 300 lbs each, from a contractor who was getting rid of them for a client’s project.

Wylde brought them to The Dalles at 8:00 AM on November 13th. When the blocks arrived, TDAC’s landscaping committee had already cleared out the plants to make space for the blocks. Executive Director J. Scott Stephenson dug out the spaces and added sand to help with drainage and leveling for the platforms.

“These blocks are 300 lbs. so they will be a great counter weight with the wide base and heft to stabilize a sculpture. Mounting bolts will be placed in the concrete to match the attachment hardware for most sculptures. We are grateful for MacRae’s effort in hauling the blocks to The Dalles and helping put them in place. The landscaping committee did a fantastic job in preparing the space and selecting a new site for a basalt bench.” said Stephenson.

Wasco County Cultural Trust and Oregon Cultural Gives Back to the Community

The Wasco County Cultural Trust provides annual funding for cultural projects in the community. Oregon Cultural Trust also provided the logistical support for the distribution of the $25.3 million in Cares Act Funds. Wasco County had six recipients of that federal support that was managed by Oregon Cultural Trust. This includes TDAC, The Civic, MCCA, and The Discovery Center.

At the end of the year, TDAC will be emphasizing for their donors the tax credit opportunity offered by Oregon Cultural Trust. “This great cultural resource that benefits our community and helps individuals lower their taxes every year.” said Stephenson.
