The Dalles Arts Center October Artist Talk features local artists on Thursday, October 19th at 7 p.m.
The Dalles, Oregon (October 13, 2023) – Henri Matisse once said, “Creativity Take courage.” Georgia O’Keeffe is quoted as saying, “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” Every artist has a unique perspective and approach to their work that may not be understood solely from looking at or reading about their art. The Artist Talks at The Dalles Art Center offer a window into the minds and hearts of artists. Questions about what has shaped their work, what challenges have they faced, and what inspires them to be part of these conversations. Audience members are invited to ask their own questions and to interact with the artists.
The As the Crow Flies Artist Talk features three artists from the group exhibit: Luke E. Tucker from The Dalles, Daiva Bergman Harris from Hood River, and Alan Smith from The Dalles. Luke Tucker has established his own style of tonal landscapes that are ethereal and distinct. He creates moody and muted oil paintings that reflect his exploration of the Pacific Northwest. Daiva Bergman Harris is a multi-media artist known for the consistent use of fiber and textiles and for capturing the viewer’s gaze with her compositions and materials. A lifelong learner and creative, she has studied and explored various mediums oil, acrylic, watercolor, Japanese painting, weaving, silkscreen woodworking, and more. Alan Root is an Oregon-born iron sculptor who attempts to emulate the world around him through iron imagery and found objects. Alan’s pieces are whimsical and thought-provoking with some pieces using kinetic movement to bring the work to life.
“I look forward to the Artist Talks at The Dalles Art Center. I’m known for introducing friends and family members to the events! Once they attend – they keep coming back. The events are wonderful. Each artist has their own perspective and finds the questions from Sally and other audience members insightful.” said Adele Barnett resident of The Dalles.
The event on Thursday, October 19th starts at 7 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. Tickets are $5 and available for purchase in person at the center or online: www.thedallesartcenter.org/events/as-the- crow-flies-artist-talk.
The As the Crow Flies exhibit at The Dalles Art Center showcases the talent of regional artists. Artists were challenged to imagine what a crow might see as it flies across Oregon and Washington state. The artists included in the exhibit responded in a rich variety of subjects and mediums from a miniature felted statue of Bigfoot to paintings that capture the light and beauty of the natural world across the Northwest.
