The Dalles to begin citywide storm drain cleaning Sept. 8

The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 1, 2026 — The Dalles Public Works Department will begin cleaning stormwater catch basins across the city Tuesday, Sept. 8, with work expected to continue through Friday, Oct. 2.

The annual maintenance is intended to keep stormwater moving efficiently through the city’s drainage system, helping protect property and the environment by removing debris that can obstruct catch basins.

Crews will work throughout The Dalles in stages, beginning on the east side of the city and moving west.

The anticipated schedule is:

  • Week of Sept. 8: Crews will work from the east side of The Dalles toward Dry Hollow Road.

  • Week of Sept. 14: Crews will work from the west side of the city toward Cherry Heights Road.

  • Week of Sept. 21: Crews will clean catch basins between Dry Hollow and Cherry Heights roads south of Fourth Street.

Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Public Works is asking residents and motorists to avoid parking in locations that block access to catch basins during working hours. Temporary traffic controls may also be used while crews are working.

Drivers should use caution around crews and equipment and follow temporary traffic-control signs and devices.
