The Pound Downtown
Clang… Clang… Clang… Clang… Clang… Clang…
That noise emanating from downtown The Dalles is the sound of progress as the City of The Dalles is replacing about 1,000 feet of sewer line just west of Union Street and Hattenhauer Distributors. Crestline Construction’s Nate Wilson said they are currently drilling relief holes as they will then bring in an excavator with a hydraulic breaker again - the source of the clang. The breaker then busts up the rock so it can be removed and a 24” or 30” pipe can be installed. They need to go some 27 feet deep before they can put the new sewer line underneath Interstate 84. Work will then cross First Street near Oregon Cherry Growers and move north. The project, known as the “Westside Interceptor”, is replacing concrete pipe that is buried just two feet under the surface. Wilson, 36, has worked for Crestline mostly since 2004. The City’s Michael Bosse is the project manager. Read the bid description here.
