The Dalles Riverhawks football team played against the Hood River Valley Eagles in their 5th game of the season last night at 7 PM in The Dalles. Wanting to get revenge for last year’s 24-6 loss, the Hawks came with some tricks up their sleeves and a lot of aggression, yet they were no match against the Eagles losing 54-6.

The Hawks started off the football game receiving the ball and bringing it to their 30-yard line. In the first play of the game, junior quarterback Riley Brock rolled out to the left with his running back while senior wide receiver Jaxon Pullen was running right at them getting the handoff from Brock and dropping back and throwing to a wide-open wide receiver Anthony Jara who caught it and took it to the 3-yard line. With a fantastic reverse pass call, the Hawks had great field position and were ready to punch it in for the touchdown, but the Eagles held them on all 4 downs and getting the ball back on their own 5-yard line. After three plays, the Eagles ran the ball right up the middle and scored an 85-yard touchdown. They made the PAT and the score was 7-0.

The Hawks got the ball back and were able to move the ball well taking it to the 50-yard line until Riley Brock threw a pass that tipped off his receiver’s fingers and was picked off by the Eagles for a touchdown. Hood River missed the PAT making the score 13-0 with 10 minutes left in the first quarter. For the rest of the quarter, it was a defensive battle between both teams. The Hawks had a big-time interception by Anthony Jara who jumped high in the air beating out a taller HRV receiver. The first quarter ended after that with the score being 13-0.

The second quarter started and it didn’t take long for the Eagles to score, running it in from the 3-yard line. They made the PAT and the score was 20-0.

The Hawks couldn’t do much on offense with the Eagle’s defense smothering them. Hood River then got the ball back and scored on a 6-yard touchdown run. Making the PAT, the score was 27-0.

The Eagles squib kicked it to the Hawks, and sophomore Dylan Titus barely caught the ball and was blown up and fumbled it. HRV recovered it.

A couple of plays later, Hood Rivers quarterback Trenton Hughes ran in a touchdown on a quarterback keep. They made the PAT making it 34-0.

Not much happened the rest of the quarter until it was down to the final minute and HRV was in the red zone and threw a touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone. They made the PAT and it was 41-0 with the first half ending.

The third quarter went by very quickly with HRV getting the kickoff and scoring 4 plays into the second half on a rushing touchdown. They made the PAT and the score is 48-0. The rest of the third quarter was a back and forth with neither team moving the ball much until 2 minutes were left and HRV scored another touchdown and missed the PAT. The score was 54-0 at the end of the third quarter.

The 4th quarter started with the Hawks moving the ball downfield and scoring their first and only touchdown with junior Marquis Sagapolutele running the ball into the endzone. The Hawks didn’t convert on the 2 point play making the score 54-6. The rest of the fourth quarter flew by with neither team doing much on offense. The Hawks went on to lose 54-6.

A rough loss that hurts extra being a rivalry game, the Hawks can’t seem to find an answer for other teams’ offenses this season. This puts their season record at 1-4 with an away game next Friday at 7 PM in Ridgeview against the Ravens.
