The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 30, 2025 — From a family talent showcase and a traditional Japanese tea ceremony to spooky crafts inspired by Sleepy Hollow, the library is full of ways to learn, laugh, and celebrate the season together.
Japanese Tea Ceremony (Full)
Tuesday, Sept. 30, 5–6 p.m., Meeting Room
Experience the tranquility of a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony with instructor Jan Waldmann. Registration is closed as the event is full.
Teen Room Movie Night
Tuesday, Sept. 30, 5–6:30 p.m., Teen Room
Enjoy popcorn and a PG-rated animated comedy about a family of ducks attempting their first migration, part of the Migratory Bird Week theme.
Spice Kit Take and Make
Wednesday, Oct. 1, 10–10:30 a.m.
Pick up a spice kit to take home while supplies last.
Adult Art Club: Shadow Boxes
Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1–2:30 p.m., Meeting Room
Adults can join the art club to create a spooky forest shadow box inspired by The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Supplies are limited, first come first served.
Teen Art Club: Shadow Boxes
Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2:30–4 p.m., Meeting Room
Teens will also have the chance to build a Sleepy Hollow-themed shadow box. Supplies are limited, first come first served.
Nuestra América: Virtual Author Talk
Thursday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Virtual
Smithsonian professionals Adrián Aldaba and Emily Key will share inspiring stories from Nuestra América, highlighting Latinos who have shaped U.S. history. Registration required.
Fun Fridays: Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Friday, Oct. 3, 3–4:30 p.m., Children’s Wing
Elementary-aged kids can enjoy snacks, collage-making, and excerpts from Washington Irving’s classic spooky tale.
First Saturday Performance: The Fiddle Fairy
Saturday, Oct. 4, 11 a.m.–noon, Children’s Wing
Lauren, the Fiddle Fairy, performs seasonal music inspired by Sleepy Hollow for all ages.
Headless Horseman Scarecrow Workshop
Saturday, Oct. 4, 2–4 p.m., Meeting Room
Teens and adults can create a scarecrow in this Legend of Sleepy Hollow community read event. Registration required.
