The Dalles, Ore., April 12, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library is offering a mix of ongoing and one-time programs in April, including puzzles, crafts, workshops, movies, gaming, and book discussions for children, teens, and adults. From a monthlong puzzle program to teen finance, family crafts, and author talks, The Dalles Public Library has a full slate of events in mid-April.

This ongoing drop-in puzzle program invites participants to work together or individually on jigsaw puzzles of varying sizes. All skill levels are welcome.

Monday, April 13
Maker Monday: Catalogue
5:30-7 p.m.
The Dalles Public Library Makerspace
Participants can browse the makerspace catalog of crafts and STEM projects, choose a project and create. The event is open to school-age children, teens and adults.

Tuesday, April 14
Virtual: On Writing Action-Packed and Suspenseful Spycraft with Brad Taylor
4-5 p.m.
Online through The Dalles Public Library
Adults are invited to a virtual conversation with author Brad Taylor about his latest novel, “Shadow Strike,” the 20th book in the Pike Logan series. Registration is required.

Teen Library Council for high schoolers

Teen Library Council offers high school students a chance to earn volunteer hours through projects such as trash pickup, shelving books and general library cleaning. The event is open to freshmen through seniors only.

The library will host its monthly family-friendly movie matinee with snacks provided. This month’s feature is a newer film about a familiar rectangular yellow underwater cartoon character. The event is open to all ages.

Kimball Hawkins leads this free public program to help adults with gadgets, smartphones, apps and other computer questions.

Money Moves: A Financial Literacy Workshop for Teens

This teen workshop covers budgeting, saving, spending, buying a first car, paying for college or trade school and planning for independent living. Registration is required.

Family Craft Night
6-7 p.m.

Families are invited to decorate and plant robot-themed pots as part of the library’s April community read event centered on “The Wild Robot.” Children must attend with an adult.

Friday, April 17
Fun Friday: Puzzle Competition
3:30-4:30 p.m.
Children’s Wing, The Dalles Public Library
School-age children can team up in a puzzle competition, with prizes for the fastest finishers and snacks possibly included.

Fun Fridays for Teens (11+): Robot Builder
3:30-4:30 p.m.
Teen Room, The Dalles Public Library
Teens will use boxes and art supplies to create life-size robot costumes inspired by Roz from “The Wild Robot,” then take part in light-saber play.

Island Life: The Science Behind Island Plants and Animals
4:30-5:30 p.m.
Main library, The Dalles Public Library
This educational talk explores island biodiversity, animal migration and the science behind the world of “The Wild Robot.” The program is geared toward older elementary-age children and up, though all ages are welcome.

Embroidery with Steph Evans: Fink Bookmark

Makerspace, The Dalles Public Library
Teens and adults can join Stephanie Evans for an in-person embroidery class to make a Fink the fox bookmark. Registration is required. The event is part of the library’s “Wild Robot” community read programming.

RPG: Role-Playing Games

Teens and adults are invited to play stand-alone role-playing games, meet new people and enjoy snacks. The group meets every third Saturday, and newcomers can join at any time.

Teens can try virtual reality gaming in the teen room. Headsets will be provided. Space and materials are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
