The Dalles, Ore., Aug. 6, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library has scheduled a variety of free programs for children, teens, adults and families during the second half of August. Unless otherwise noted, programs are free and open to the public.
Maker Mondays: Catalogue
Monday, Aug. 10 and Aug. 24 | 5:30 p.m.
All ages are invited to browse the library's catalog of crafts and STEM projects, choose a favorite activity, gather supplies and create.
Bedazzle Hair Clips and Sunglasses
Wednesday, Aug. 12 | 1-2 p.m.
Teens can decorate hair clips, barrettes and sunglasses with colorful gems during this creative activity. Materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
Family STEAM Night: Potato Batteries
Thursday, Aug. 13 | 6-7 p.m.
Families are invited to explore science through the classic potato battery experiment during this monthly STEAM program. Children must attend with an accompanying adult. A complimentary hot beverage will be available. Food may have come into contact with common allergens.
Make It Yourself: Smoothie Wars!
Friday, Aug. 14 | 3-4 p.m.
Teens will form teams to create unique smoothie recipes before a blind taste test by library staff. Materials are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Food allergy precautions apply.
Fun Fridays
Friday, Aug. 14 | 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Elementary-age children, ages 5-10, are invited to enjoy a rotating selection of crafts, games and STEM activities in the Children's Wing. All children are welcome.
Embroidery with Steph Evans
Saturday, Aug. 15 | 10 a.m.-noon
Teens and adults can learn embroidery techniques during this hands-on workshop led by Steph Evans. Registration is required.
VR Gaming
Saturday, Aug. 15 | 1-3 p.m.
Teens are invited to experience virtual reality gaming. Space and materials are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Open Makerspace
Saturday, Aug. 15 | 2-4:30 p.m.
Teens and adults are welcome to use the library's Makerspace for self-directed creative projects and exploration.
