The Dalles, Ore., June 1, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library opens June with take-home kits, craft programs, concerts, games, teen study sessions, and hands-on family events.

Spice Kit Take and Make

All day Monday, June 1, The Dalles Public Library. Teens and adults can pick up a Spice Kit Take and Make kit at the circulation desk on the first Monday of the month. Kits include recipes selected by local librarians and select spices. Materials are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Seed Take and Make

10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, The Dalles Public Library. Patrons can pick up a free Seed Take and Make packet while supplies last. Each packet includes seeds for planting at home in a garden, containers or community plots. No experience is needed. Materials are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mah Jongg, afternoon session

3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, June 1, Makerspace, The Dalles Public Library. Teens and adults ages 14 and older can take part in an afternoon Mah Jongg session. Registration is required.

Getting Curious About Conflict with Emily Squires

5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 1, Main Library, The Dalles Public Library. Emily Squires will lead a community conversation titled “Softening Sharp Teeth: Getting Curious About Conflict.” The discussion, part of the Oregon Humanities Conversation Project, will explore how interpersonal conflict shapes relationships and how people can engage with disagreement more responsibly.

Mah Jongg, evening session

5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 1, Makerspace, The Dalles Public Library. Teens and adults ages 14 and older can take part in an evening Mah Jongg session. Registration is required.

Quilling with Corina

11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 2, Meeting Room, The Dalles Public Library. Participants of all ages can learn the art of paper quilling by rolling, shaping and arranging strips of paper into decorative designs. All materials are provided.

Little Learners Lab: Kids in STEAM

11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, Children’s Wing, The Dalles Public Library. Toddlers and preschoolers can take part in a hands-on, play-based STEAM program focused on building, discovery, creativity and experimentation. Children must attend with an engaged adult. Drop-offs are not permitted.

Crazy Craft Club: Woven Dino Bag

4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, Makerspace, The Dalles Public Library. Children ages 8 to 12 can join Crazy Craft Club for a colorful, hands-on project. Children must attend with an engaged adult. Drop-offs are not permitted.

Virtual: Your Ticket to the Best State Fair Crafts with Smithsonian Curator Mary Savig

11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, June 3, virtual program through The Dalles Public Library. Adults can register for a virtual discussion with Smithsonian curator Mary Savig on the history and significance of craft at state fairs, including quilts, crop art, butter sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, and other traditions.

Family Sweets and Stories Night

6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, Main Library, The Dalles Public Library. Families can enjoy dessert, coloring and a read-aloud program led by a librarian. The reading may include the first chapters of a community read, a short story, poetry or another family-friendly selection. Food served may have come into contact with allergens.

Friday Concerts in June at Noon

Noon to 1 p.m. Friday, June 5, The Dalles Public Library. The library will host its free Fridays in June at Noon Concert Series outdoors on the library deck under the sycamore tree. The family-friendly series is in its third year and is supported by the Wasco County Cultural Trust. The 2026 series will highlight global sounds and include a short educational element with each performance. Light snacks will be provided.

Fun Friday: Bubble Madness and Kabobs

3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, Children’s Wing, The Dalles Public Library. Elementary school-aged children can take part in a weekly activity program featuring art, crafts, games or hands-on activities. The program is intended for children ages 5 to 10, though all are welcome.

Fun Fridays for Teens: Summer Crafts

3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, Teen Room, The Dalles Public Library. Teens can make ankle or wrist bracelets, jewelry dishes and other summer crafts during the final Fun Friday of the school year.

First Friday Bunco Bash

5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, New Books area, The Dalles Public Library. Mature teens and adults can play Bunco during a relaxed social game night with light snacks and prizes. Registration is required.

Show and Share: Library of Rock

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, Children’s Wing, The Dalles Public Library. Musician Bryon Burke will lead a hands-on family workshop on rhythm, tempo and the basics of starting a rock band. Participants will help build a song together, with a guitar solo and open mic moments at the end. The program is a preview of the Library of Rock summer camp beginning June 24. Children must attend with an engaged adult. Drop-offs are not permitted.

Lacing Communities Together: Lace Workshop

1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, Makerspace, The Dalles Public Library. Adults can learn about lacemaking and begin creating a lace triangle as part of the Columbia Gorge Museum’s Lacing Communities Together project with lace artist Maggie Hensel-Brown. Supplies will be provided. Registration is required. Participants may sign up for the waitlist if the class is full.

VR Gaming

1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, Teen Room, The Dalles Public Library. Teens can take part in a virtual reality gaming session at the library.
