The Dalles, Ore., June 28, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library wraps up June and begins July with hands-on science, family activities, book discussions, crafts, games and programs for every age.
Monday, June 29
Bee Amazed!
2–3:30 p.m. | Meeting Room
Learn about Oregon's more than 500 native bee species during this hands-on presentation from the University of Oregon Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Participants of all ages can explore the fascinating world of mason bees, cuckoo bees, mining bees and honeybees through interactive science activities. Children must attend with an adult.
Maker Monday: Catalogue
5:30 p.m.
Browse the library's collection of craft and STEM projects, choose a favorite, gather supplies and create. Open to school-age children, teens and adults.
Tuesday, June 30
Little Learners Lab: Kids in STEAM
11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. | Children's Wing
Toddlers and preschoolers can explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through hands-on, play-based activities that encourage curiosity and creativity. Children must attend with an adult.
Sci-Fi Book Club: "The Man Who Saw Seconds"
5–6 p.m. | Meeting Room
Join fellow science fiction readers for a discussion of Alexander Boldizar's award-winning novel The Man Who Saw Seconds. Copies are available at the library.
Wednesday, July 1
Seed Take & Make
All Day
Pick up a free packet of seeds while supplies last and start a garden at home, in containers or in a community plot. Packets are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Thursday, July 2
Library Scouts: I Survived Shelter Badge
1:30–2:30 p.m. | Children's Wing
Children ages 8-12 can build outdoor, community and STEAM skills through this hands-on Library Scouts program. Registration is required.
Booked for a Walk
5:30–6 p.m.
Meet at the library for a weekly community walk or run. Participants of all ages are welcome, with refreshments provided afterward.
Family Sweets and Stories Night
6–7 p.m. | Main Library
Enjoy dessert, coloring activities and a family-friendly read-aloud presented by library staff. The evening may feature a novel, short stories or poetry. Food allergens cannot be guaranteed.
Friday, July 3
Fun Friday: DIY Slime
3:30–4:30 p.m. | Children's Wing
Elementary-age children are invited to make slime during this week's Fun Friday activity. Recommended for ages 5-10, but all children are welcome.
First Friday Bunco Bash
5:30–7 p.m. | Makerspace
Teens and adults are invited to an evening of Bunco, snacks and friendly competition. No experience is necessary. Registration is required.
Saturday, July 4
Library Closed
All libraries in the district, including The Dalles, Dufur and Southern Wasco County libraries, will be closed in observance of Independence Day.
