The Dalles, Ore., Oct. 12, 2025 — The library transforms into a hub of autumn magic this week, with hands-on crafts, storytelling, and community fun inspired by the season. Hatch your own “mini water monsters,” craft a witch’s broom, sip cider while making spider art, or gather for Sleepy Hollow movie nights and ghostly art projects. From cozy family camping on the library lawn to piñata-smashing fun and colonial crafts, there’s something for every age to enjoy.

Mini Water Monsters: Triops Take & Make Kit
Monday, Oct. 13, All Day, Library
Families can hatch their own prehistoric creatures with this Smithsonian Prehistoric Sea Monsters kit. Each household can take home a kit while supplies last.

Botanical Broom craft
Monday, Oct. 13, 2–4 p.m., Meeting Room
Celebrate autumn by creating your own witch’s broomstick using branches, herbs, and dried botanicals. Led by naturalist Kaity Calmes. Registration is full; waitlist available.

Camping and Storytelling
Monday, Oct. 13, 5–7 p.m., Library Lawn
Pitch a tent, sip cocoa, and enjoy collaborative storytelling around the “campfire.” Designed for families with children; drop-offs not permitted.

Cider and Spiders
Tuesday, Oct. 14, 4–5:30 p.m., Meeting Room
Sip hot cider while making spider crafts and listening to a themed storytime. For children and families.

Adult Art Club: Ghost Frames
Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1–2:30 p.m., Meeting Room
Adults gather to share art and make framed mini ghosts as part of the Sleepy Hollow Community Read series.

Teen Art Club: Ghost Frames
Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2:30–3:30 p.m., Makerspace
Teens will create ghost frames in this spooky art session connected to the Sleepy Hollow Community Read.

Movie Matinee: Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Wednesday, Oct. 15, 4–6 p.m., Meeting Room
Enjoy a screening of the classic animated short The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, with games and dinner for families.

Fun Fridays: Headless Horseman Piñata (School Age)
Friday, Oct. 17, 3–4:30 p.m., Children’s Wing
Kids can take part in themed activities and smash a Headless Horseman piñata as part of Fun Fridays.

Fun Fridays for Teens (11+): Pumpkin Piñata
Friday, Oct. 17, 3:15–4:30 p.m., Teen Room
Teens gather for weekly activities. This session features a pumpkin piñata.

Embroidery with Steph Evans: Headless Horseman
