The Dalles, Ore., Sept. 18, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library has a full slate of activities planned for Sept. 20 through 26, ranging from children’s programs and teen activities to dance classes, art, local history, and a movie at the Granada Theatre.

Sunday, Sept. 20

Tween Librarian Team applications — All day: Applications close Sunday for the library’s October Tween Librarian Team. Selected children will adopt and decorate a library shelf, showcase favorite books and movies, learn library skills and attend a private party. Six participants will be selected. The program lists registration for ages 7-12, although the event description says applicants must be ages 7-11. The team party and shelf adoption will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 3. Registration is required.

Monday, Sept. 21

Teen Room Makeover: Poster Making — 3:30-5 p.m., Teen Room: Teens can help redesign the library’s teen space by creating posters for the wall leading to the Teen Room.

Maker Monday — 5:30-7 p.m., Makerspace: An arts, crafts and STEAM program for teens and adults.

Tuesday, Sept. 22

3D Doodler Open Studio — 4-5 p.m., Makerspace: School-age children can create their own projects using 3D Doodlers provided by the Columbia Gorge STEM Hub. The open studio is offered on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

Puppet Workshop — 5:30-6 p.m., Children’s Wing: Children can make a different style of puppet to take home during this monthly arts and storytime program. Designed for preschool and school-age children. An accompanying adult must attend; drop-offs are not permitted.

Wednesday, Sept. 23

Adult Art Club — 1-2:30 p.m., Makerspace: Arts and crafts program for adults.

Chess Club — 2-3:30 p.m., Main Library: Vanessa and Payten lead players through chess fundamentals, strategies, practice games and analysis. The club meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays and is open to ages 8 and older.

Minecraft Club — 3-5 p.m., Teen Room: Teens ages 11-17 can play Minecraft together on library iPads and the library’s Minecraft server, complete challenges and test their building and mining skills. Registration is required because iPads are limited, and siblings must register separately. Light snacks will be provided.

Hello, World!

Clogging with Becky Huskey — 5-7 p.m., Meeting Room: Teens and adults can learn the basics of clogging during an eight-week dance series led by Becky Huskey. No previous experience is required. Participants may wear comfortable shoes or borrow tap shoes from the library.

Thursday, Sept. 24

Drop-in Homework Help for Teens — 3:30-5:30 p.m., Teen Room: Teens can receive help with homework and classroom subjects. Students may drop in anytime during the two-hour session. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.

Virtual author event with Lucky Diaz — 4-4:30 p.m., online: Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning musician and children’s author Lucky Diaz discusses neighborhood, music, art and his bilingual picture book, “Paletero Man.” This session is presented in English. Registration is required.
Virtual author event with Lucky Diaz — 5-5:30 p.m., online: Diaz’s “Paletero Man” program will also be presented in Spanish. Registration is required.

Family Lego Pizza Night — 5:30-7 p.m., Meeting Room: Families can spend the evening building with Legos and sharing pizza. The all-ages program is held on the last Thursday of each month.

Friday, Sept. 25

Wasco County Historical Society Orchards and Heritage Discussion — 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Main Library: A discussion of orchards and local heritage presented with the Wasco County Historical Society.

Fun Friday for Teens — 3:30-4:30 p.m.: A Friday afternoon program for teens at The Dalles Public Library.

Fun Friday: School Supplies Scavenger Hunt — 3:30-4:30 p.m., Children’s Wing: Elementary-age children can participate in a school supplies-themed scavenger hunt. Fun Friday is primarily designed for ages 5-10, with a different activity offered each week.

Beginner Tap Dance, ages 5-6 — 4:15-4:45 p.m., Meeting Room: Young dancers can begin learning a holiday routine that will eventually be performed at the Civic Auditorium with The Dalles Ukulele Players and Victor Johnson. Registration is required.

Beginner Tap Dance, ages 7-11 — 5-5:45 p.m., Meeting Room: A holiday tap dance class culminating in a community performance at the Civic Auditorium. Registration is required.

Beginner Tap Dance, teens and adults — 5:45-6:15 p.m., Meeting Room: Teens and adults can learn a holiday tap routine for a later performance at the Civic Auditorium. Registration is required.

Back to School Movie: “Clueless” — 6-8 p.m., Granada Theatre: The library heads off-site for a screening of the 1995 comedy “Clueless.” The event is listed for school-age children, teens and adults.

Saturday, Sept. 26

Rock Collection Take & Make Kit — All day: Visitors can pick up a rock sample and miniature fact sheet to add to their collections. The kits are offered on the fourth Saturday of each month and are available while supplies last.

Bluey Party — 10:30 a.m.-noon, Meeting Room: Preschoolers can celebrate Bluey with storytime, Keepy Uppy, hula hoops, bubbles, a scavenger hunt, dancing, face painting and crafts. Children can also receive a take-home prize bag and take pictures with Bluey and Bingo.

Young Readers Graphic Novel Club — 1-2 p.m., Children’s Wing: Readers ages 8-12 combine books with games, art, snacks and hands-on activities. September’s selection is “Last Day Pool Party” by Emma Steinkellner.
