This Week in Gorge Entertainment

By Jim Drake

Gearing Up for Summer Reading

Some of my earliest childhood memories involve vacations at the Jersey Shore, and since those vacations were in an era well-before the MTV sitcom of the same name, we got some of our entertainment value from books, namely paperbacks from the variety store. I distinctly remember being fascinated with the ‘trapped in the cave sequence’ in “Tom Sawyer,” and later on, Steven King’s “The Stand'' was on many-a-beach-towel. This year, I’m going to try a few more books with Movie-Tie-In’s. I’ve got a head start with already finishing “Finding Forrester,” and now I’ll dive into “Million Dollar Baby,” and “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.” Both of course involve Clint Eastwood in the director chair, and it will be interesting because the movies rank in my “Favorites” and “Least Favorites” category. But I have to say that “Midnight” seems to make more sense the more I watch it, and it’s time to read the book and see if my opinion can move it up a few notches.
