The Dalles, Ore., Oct. 4, 2026 — The Dalles Public Library has a full slate of programs Oct. 5-10, including several events connected to its Grimm’s Fairy Tales Community Read, along with crafts, gaming, family activities, employment assistance and a puzzle exchange.
Monday, Oct. 5
Spice Kit Take and Make: Poison Apple Cider — All day. Teens and adults can pick up a Poison Apple Cider spice kit at the circulation desk as part of the library’s monthly Spice Kit Take and Make program. The kits include recipes selected by library staff and select spices. This is a Grimm’s Fairy Tales Community Read event. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Needle Felted Fairies — 1:30-3 p.m., Meeting Room. Teens and adults can make needle-felted fairies during this Grimm’s Fairy Tales Community Read event.
Nintendo Switch Gaming — 3-5 p.m. Teens are invited to the library for an afternoon of Nintendo Switch gaming.
Maker Monday: Enchanted Forest Garland — 5:30-7 p.m., Meeting Room. Teens and adults can create an enchanted forest garland during Maker Monday. Space is limited.
Tuesday, Oct. 6
Crazy Craft Club: Grimm Silhouette Painting — 4-5 p.m., Meeting Room. Children ages 8-12 can create a Grimm-inspired silhouette painting. Crazy Craft Club focuses on colorful, messy and creative projects for kids and tweens. An accompanying adult must attend and participate; drop-offs are not permitted. The program is part of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales Community Read.
Wednesday, Oct. 7
Adult Art Club: Grimm Lanterns — 1-2:30 p.m., Makerspace. Adults can mix and match pieces to create a spooky lantern inspired by their favorite Grimm’s fairy tales. The activity is part of the Grimm’s Fairy Tales Community Read.
Ceramic Magical Door Bookends, Part 1 — 4-7 p.m., Meeting Room. School-age children, teens and adults can begin creating ceramic magical door bookends. This is a ticketed, two-part program, with tickets available beginning at 3:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must attend both sessions. The second session is Oct. 28.
Thursday, Oct. 8
Meet an Employment Specialist — 2-4 p.m., Main Library. Adults can meet one-on-one with an employment specialist through Goodwill JobConnection. The free program can assist with resumes, job leads, interviews, hiring events and other employment resources.
Paint Night: The Black Forest — 5:30-7:30 p.m., Meeting Room. Teens and adults can join Abbey for a guided painting based on the artwork featured on the cover of The Dalles Public Library’s Grimm’s Fairy Tales. The program is part of the Community Read.
Family STEAM Night: Spooky Snakes and Scary Spiders — 6-7 p.m., Main Library. Families can learn about — and meet — snakes and spiders while discovering why many of the often-feared creatures are harmless to people. Coloring pages and a hot beverage will also be available. Children must attend with an accompanying adult.
Friday, Oct. 9
Fun Friday for Teens: DIY Tiny Coffins — 3:30-4:30 p.m. Teens can make miniature coffins using small potion bottles, spiders and other spooky decorations. Snacks will be provided.
Fun Friday: Scary Stories and Spooky Treats — 3:30-4:30 p.m., Children’s Wing. Children can take part in a spooky edition of the library’s weekly Fun Friday program. The program is geared toward ages 5-10, but everyone is welcome.
Lesser-Loved Critter Plushies — 4-6 p.m., Makerspace. Teens and adults can learn to sew stuffed animals modeled after some of nature’s less-celebrated creatures, including snakes, bats, spiders, sharks and wasps. Patterns range from beginner to advanced, and supplies will be provided. Participants may attend multiple sessions to complete their projects.
Saturday, Oct. 10
VinYin and Violin — 9-10 a.m. Yoga instructor Shannon RedCloud and violinist Jeremy Clawson will lead an early-morning yoga session accompanied by live violin music on the library lawn beneath the sycamore tree.
Lesser-Loved Critter Plushies: Saturday Edition — 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Makerspace. Teens and adults get another opportunity to create stuffed snakes, bats, spiders, sharks, wasps and other lesser-loved creatures. Patterns and supplies are provided, with projects available for a range of sewing abilities.
Puzzle Exchange — 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Main Library. Community members of all ages can bring a puzzle they no longer want and exchange it for another during an all-day puzzle swap.
KidQuest — 2-4 p.m., Children’s Wing. Children ages 6-11 can explore role-playing games, create characters and take part in collaborative adventures using imagination and teamwork. Snacks will be provided.
