Officer Eric MacNab of The Dalles Police Department has said “We have 11 victims and over $6000.00 damage. Because the investigation is ongoing I don’t want to talk about suspect information or what is being done on our end. I would encourage anyone with any information about these incidences to call Detective Lick with The Dalles Police Department 541-296-2613.”

Several reports of tire slashings in downtown The Dalles were reported to The Dalles City Police on the 8th, 16th, and 17th of this month. Victims of the tire slashing include a local business owner and five residents of the Commodore II which sits kitty corner from The Dalles Police Station and across the street from City Hall in The Dalles. Officers have taken photos of all vehicles involved but report no suspect information at this time. Although, some speculate a resident of the Commodore II may be to blame due to the threatening messages reading “GET OUT X” which were left on the doors of the five Commodore residents whose tires were slashed, leaving many afraid to return to their homes.

“I am absolutely terrified to go back home,” said one resident.

Commodore II management is aware of the situation and has asked residents to park elsewhere for the time being.

Katrina Lefavour, a resident of the Commodore said that her tires were slashed twice this month. “I tried to start parking away from the Commodore but it didn’t help. It was once again targeted.”

“My car is very important to me of course,” said Lefavour “I work 40+ hours a week and rely on it heavily. Replacing the tires the first time was a very inconvenient ordeal and then the second slashing just broke me completely as I had just replaced them only 5 days prior. I also have no family here. I’m completely independent and have no outside help for this kind of issue.”

Lefavour first posted about the slashings on The Dalles Happenings on the 11th, asking if anyone else had problems with tire slashings in the neighborhood and later posted a video warning others about a “SERIAL TIRE SLASHING ON COURT STREET” urging community members not to park in the area after yet another round of tire slashings left the entire block with flat tires.

“The car that is parked at the very end is (also) being targeted,” said Lefavour “So I stayed up until 2 AM last night watching...when I woke up this morning it was 7:50 AM and it was still fine. I woke up again at 8:30 AM and it had been slashed for the second time.”

“Unfortunately I did not have comprehensive insurance,” said Lefavour “which is the only way insurance will cover it. Same with the Les Schwab tire warranty I have, it does not cover slashings so everything is out of pocket for me.”

Luckily, a good samaritan has now helped Lefavour pay for a new set of tires.

“To whoever paid for my new set of tires after the second slashing: I can’t thank you enough for what you did for me, bless you!” reads Lefavour’s comment on The Dalles Happenings Facebook page. The comment has been liked 396 times.
