Lyle, WA July 17, 2023– A Burlington Northern Santa Fe Train (BNSF) train experienced a fire in the generator compartment at the Lyle Cherry Orchard trailhead near Lyle, WA at around 6:40 p.m. on July 17. 

Lyle , Bingen, and High Prarire Fire departments responded as well as, DNR and the United States Forest Service, Klickitat County Sheriff and Washington State Police responded to the fire. 

“We’ve got it knocked down. We’re just cooling it down now,” said David McCune, Lyle Fire Chief. 

The train crew was evacuated and BNSF engineers are on their way to fix the train.
