Submit App. by August for 2 free trees; form is online and eezee

From The City of The Dalles:

The Dalles, Ore., May 30, 2025 — The City of The Dalles Beautification and Tree Committee is offering grants for locals to purchase trees to improve local neighborhoods for the third year in a row.

Residential tree grant applications are being accepted through August 1, 2025.

Trees beautify neighborhoods and provide environmental and economic benefits, including cooling shade, improved air and soil quality, increased property values, and wildlife habitat.

Tree grants provide support for residents within City limits to enhance their property with carefully selected trees.

Grants are limited to two trees per property owner, subject to availability. Trees must be selected from an approved list and planted in eligible locations—either the front yard or public right-of-way, depending on site conditions. Tree species are chosen for their hardiness, pest resistance, and infrastructure-friendly roots. Watering devices and root barriers may also be requested.

Priority will be given to applications proposing tree planting:

  • Near schools or along walking routes to schools

  • Near affordable housing developments

  • Near senior housing facilities

  • In public rights-of-way

  • In areas of The Dalles that have less shade cover

Applications will be reviewed by the Beautification and Tree Committee. Before planting, all grant recipients must contact the Oregon Utility Notification Center by dialing 811 at least 48 hours in advance to ensure underground utilities are marked.

Approved applicants will be notified by September 1, 2025. Trees must be picked up on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Thompson Park, 602 West 2nd Street. Planting instructions and tree care guidance will be provided at pick-up.
