Trey Rose will bring his Texas Country with a little Pop underneath to the Bargeway Pub in The Dalles on Saturday, July 15. Rose, a contestant on NBC’s The Voice several years ago, is an independent musician with some astounding music. Photo from @treyrosemusic

“I went Oklahoma State for a year and realized that college was not for me, and dropped out to start a band. I’ve been playing music ever since,” Rose told musicotfuture.com in an interview in 2022. “Along the way, I dropped the band and started doing solo acoustic shows. I gigged all around the south for years playing small clubs, bars and anywhere that would have me for years which led me to competing on NBC’s The Voice in 2019.  Following The Voice, I started releasing my own original music…”

United Way of The Columbia Gorge Concert and Auction July 21

Huckleberry Road

The United Way of the Columbia Gorge kicks it into high gear in The Dalles at the Bargeway Pub for its biggest annual fundraiser on July 21 with a power punch of country music and fun from skyrocketing country performers Jessie Leigh of Clackamas and Reno-based Huckleberry Road.

The night will also feature a raffle and live auction as the event fundraises to fund 27 local nonprofits such as Meals on Wheels which provide to support locals. Money goes toward basic human needs, keeping youth on track, and keeping locals safe from violence and abuse.

The Balch Hotel in Dufur is hosting a series of six outdoor concerts this summer on its scenic, mountain-view grounds. There is no cover charge for guests dining or staying at the hotel, though the hoteliers will collect optional pay-what-you-will donations to support the series and musicians. Music of the West African Kora comes to The Dalles

The Dalles Library presents musician Sean Gaskell on Thursday, July 13, at 6 p.m. Gaskell will give a performance and educational demonstration on the kora, an ancient 21-stringed harp from West Africa. He will feature traditional songs that are the heart and soul of the kora’s musical repertoire. The kora is traditionally played by oral historians known as Griots, often called Jalis or Jelis. Many songs tell the story of war, hardship, love and loss all while presenting the history and fabric of Mande society, of which the instrument originates.

Please prepare: No more than 2 minutes of a song to perform at auditions.

Bring your backing track on your phone, or have a YouTube karaoke track link ready to share. Be prepared for: short cold readings, short dance auditions (wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in), and familiarize yourself with the roles if auditioning for a lead (watching the movie is recommended).

About the event

Chayag Andean Folk Music And Dance Chayag means, “to arrive” in Quichua, the indigenous language of the Incas. This group has been sharing and preserving the ancestral music, dance and culture of the indigenous people of the Andes for more than 20 years.

The current project is called “Chayag en Familia” or Chayag Family. This project continues decades of work by Alex Llumiquinga to present an engaging interpretation of traditional Andean rhythms to delight the audience, both young and old. The emphasis in the current work is to show the importance of passing on these traditions to our children. Click here to learn more.
