As Oregon prepares for its primary election on May 21, 2024, the absence of Trump’s statement in the voters’ pamphlet marks a significant moment in the state’s political landscape.

The Dalles, Ore., April 1, 2024 – Wasco County Clerk’s office sent a message to the press today, asking local media to alert voters that Presidential candidate Donald Trump has declined to participate in the Oregon Voters Pamphlet for this Primary election. Trump’s decision not to participate in the pamphlet leaves President Joe Biden as the only presidential candidate to appear in the state-issued voter’s pamphlet.
“He chose not to participate,” said Lisa Gambee, Wasco County Clerk “Given the concerns citizens have about election fraud I wanted people to know ahead of time that he declined to participate. It’s not that his inclusion was suppressed.”
The Oregon Secretary of State's Office, confirmed that Trump's campaign did not submit a statement for inclusion in the pamphlet. Trump’s campaign has not shared the reason for this decision.
Presidential candidates are not mandated to participate but typically choose to submit a statement for a $3,500 fee. These statements, which can be up to 325 words, reach every voter in the state and provide voters with crucial information about candidates running for office. Historically, few presidential candidates have opted out of providing statements since 2012, with John Kasich, Rand Paul, and Tulsi Gabbard among them, none of whom were front-runners at the time of their decision.
While he may not appear in the voter’s pamphlet, Trump will still appear on ballots sent to Republican voters.
Oregon Primary Election Voters pamphlets will be available online on April 26, 2024, and the main ballot mailings will take place on May 1st. April 30, 2024 is the last day to register to vote in the Presidential Primaries in Oregon.
