Turner offers Storytelling and Mindfulness Meditation classes at TD ART Center in May
From Nancy Turner:
Storytelling, A Class for Adults
Stories and Folktales provide a kaleidoscope of wisdom. They are like an owner's manual on how to be a wise human being. There's something special about telling a story versus reading it. This class is an introduction to those who want to develop the storyteller within. Working with stories from around the world you will learn basic storytelling techniques.
There is no memorization! This is not a drama class. It is for people interested in exploring themes and symbolic meanings in stories for adults. You will learn how to identify themes in stories. Most importantly, you will learn how to tell a story with confidence to anyone. You will work with wisdom-based tales for midlife and elder tales.
“I took my first class in storytelling because I was shy and wanted to gain confidence speaking in front of groups of people. It worked. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to remember a long story, but I discovered it is easier than I thought.” NT

Mindfulness Meditation
Are you interested in learning how to meditate? Whether you're in the midst of a crisis or life is going along smoothly, meditation is a key to maintaining an inner calm no matter what is going on around you. Children taught mindfulness meditation performed better academically and curbed disruptive behaviors.
In this meditation group, you will see what's going on in your brain and how to calm the turmoil. It's easier than you think. Do you know why the Buddha sat cross-legged when he meditated? It's not that there's a particular position required. He sat like that because there were no chairs in India at that time. We have chairs at TDAC ! If you prefer to sit on the floor, please bring a mat. This is not a class on Buddhism. It is open to people of all faiths. It is to learn how to silence the crazy mind and experience greater inner peace. We will practice silent meditation, guided meditation, and walking meditation.
Instructor Nancy Turner M. Ed. began insight meditation in her early twenties, over fifty years ago. She traveled to Nepal and Tibet and is a thangka painter. Fifteen years ago she co-led a group of twenty Americans to Thailand for a month, visiting numerous monasteries around the country. She is a co-founder of the Portland Insight Meditation Center in Portland, Oregon.
