Uncovering a Murder Mystery at Wasco County Public Library

Uncovering a Murder Mystery at Wasco County Public Library

By Joshuah Albert

The Dalles, Ore. Aug. 23, 2024 – As a dark storm brewed over The Dalles on Thursday evening, Aug. 22, the thunder seemed to carry an ominous warning for those gathered at the Wasco County Public Library: a murder was about to unfold.

The library had transformed into a scene of suspense and intrigue as it hosted a murder mystery event titled The Greatest Show on Earth.

The setting for the evening’s mystery was a traveling circus, complete with clowns, acrobats, musicians, and dancers. Max A. Million, the ringmaster of this eclectic group, had invited all his performers to a mandatory gathering under the Big Top, set in the fictional town of Deadwood Valley.

But as the night wore on, it became clear that not everyone was thrilled to be there. With scandals brewing and tempers flaring, the tension in the room was palpable.

Participants, including many locals from The Dalles who dressed in elaborate costumes, were handed red envelopes that contained details about their characters. The characters were rich in backstory, with deep-seated grudges and secrets that added to the evening’s suspense. One participant, who played Rockin’ Bobby, a daredevil with a grudge against Skywheel Danny for stealing his shows, found himself in the thick of the drama.

As the evening progressed, the ringmaster announced he needed a brief break. But when he returned, the plot took a deadly turn—he was struck down by a well-aimed arrow from a crossbow, leaving everyone in the room as a potential suspect.

Accusations flew, alliances were tested, and secrets were revealed. Conversations became more pointed as participants tried to piece together the puzzle. The pressure was on, and my instincts as Rockin’ Bobby, the daredevil, told me to suspect Skywheel Danny, who stole my acts at the circus. The evidence was stacking up, and eventually, it became clear—Skywheel Danny was the murderer all along.

Skywheel Danny, Busted.

With the mystery solved, the room erupted in cheers, celebrating not just the capture of the fictional murderer, but the successful unraveling of a complex web of lies and deceit.

The Wasco County Public Library’s murder mystery event provided an evening of thrilling entertainment for all who attended, blending the excitement of a good whodunit with the camaraderie of a community gathering.
