Unidentified Female Body Found in Klickitat River after kayaker swept away in June

The two-person inflatable kayak was seen resting on top of wood debris on the right side of the river, near the Klickitat Fish Hatchery on June 9, nearly a week after a 29-year-old woman fell out of the boat and went missing. Officials called off the search last week. Photo by Justin Brimer

From Klickitat County Sheriff’s Ofice:

Klickitat County Sheriff’s Deputies and Klickitat County Search and Rescue Personnel recovered a female body in the Klickitat River off of Soda Springs Road on September 2, 2023, during daylight hours, according to a recent Sheriff’s press release.

The location where the body was discovered was approximately 10 miles downstream from the Fish Hatchery where 29-year-old Sandhya Sirdhar fell out of her kayak and was swept downstream in Klickitat River on June 3, 2023.

On that day, Klickitat County Sheriff’s Deputies and Klickitat County Search and Rescue Personnel responded to the report of a missing female kayaker who had gone over the Dam by the Fish Hatchery on the Klickitat River and was swept downstream.

The Sheriff’s Deputies and Search and Rescue Personnel conducted an extensive search for the woman from Skamania County over a two-day period but were not able to locate her.

At the time of her disappearance in the Klickitat River, she was wearing a pink hooded sweatshirt and gray yoga-style hiking pants.  She was not wearing a life jacket when she fell out of her kayak.

The Sheriff’s office has yet to receive a possessive identification on the female body, but it suspects the body may be that of Sandhya Sirdhar.

It should be noted, at this time the Sheriff’s Office has no other reports of missing persons on the Klickitat River.
