Utility work on Old Dufur Road begins Monday, bringing delays, lane closures

The Dalles, Ore., April 9, 2026 — Utility work is set to begin Monday, April 13, on Old Dufur Road, with drivers advised to expect delays and intermittent lane closures over the next two weeks.

The City of The Dalles Public Works Department announced Phase 1 of a new utility service installation project will run from April 13 through April 21, with a partial road closure in place during work hours.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane, and motorists could experience delays of up to 20 minutes.

For residents and commuters who rely on Old Dufur Road, the work is expected to impact daily travel, particularly during peak hours. City officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead or use alternate routes when possible.

Work will take place daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with flaggers directing vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians through the work zone as conditions allow. The road will reopen at the end of each workday.

A traffic message board will be posted at the intersection of East 10th Street and Old Dufur Road warning drivers of the one-lane restriction and potential delays.

Phase 2 of the project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 20, and will focus on repairing paved areas where new utility services were installed.

No parking will be allowed within the project area to accommodate large equipment. Temporary “no parking” signs will be posted 48 hours before work begins in each section.

Officials are asking the public to use caution, follow posted traffic controls and be mindful of crews working in the area.
