Wasco County approves forward movement on feasibility study for a new sports facility
by Cole Goodwin
On May 18th, 2022 the Wasco County Commissioners reviewed a draft of a request for proposals for a Sports Facility Market & Financial Feasibility Study. Commissioners directed staff to make a few minor edits to the Kramer Field Request for Proposal (RFP) draft and then move forward.
The RFP states that Wasco County is looking for a firm to conduct a Sports Facility Market & Financial Feasibility Study, which would inform the County on the economic viability of a new site for a sports facility within The Dalles City Limits.
The feasibility study would also inform whether a new sports complex could replace the Kramer Field sports complex so that Kramer Field could, in turn, become the site of a new Mid-Columbia Medical Center hospital and the Columbia Gorge Resolution Center.
The CGRC would be a facility that sought to address mental health and addiction treatment needs in Wasco, Hood River, and Sherman County through specific programming and partnerships that have yet to be finalized.
Wasco County Sheriff Lane Magill has said that the CRGC would help end the cycle of repeated incarcerations of individuals with mental and behavioral health problems due to repeated low-level crimes such as disturbing the peace.
