City of The Dalles Public Works crews worked through the night to repair a water line near the intersection of 14th and Quinton Streets, which has officials recommending they turn off the mains to their houses.

Public works officials advise that citizens in the area from E 9th to E 19th, and Dry Hollow Road to Thompson Street should shut off the water mains to their houses if possible and turn off their hot water heaters temporarily.

Several homeowners on Facebook had reported overflowing water heaters due to pressure issues.

The mainline break on Quinton had been repaired as of this morning. However, The Dalles is built on a hill and water pressure is difficult to restore to the service area as too much pressure can be harmful to pipes. Downhill pressure or “head” makes it more difficult to regulate as it changes at different elevations.

Crews were bringing the water back online this morning, but warnings still remain in effect.

City public works is currently working on a broken water pipe in the area of Quinton Ballpark. Public works officials advise that citizens in the area from E 9th to E 19th, and Dry Hollow Rd to Thompson St should shut off the water mains to their houses if possible and turn off their hot water heaters temporarily.

This advisory will be removed when the situation is remedied.

As of 5:30 a.m. this morning, June 3, Public Works advised that approximately 600 residences will remain without water for an unknown amount of time. There may be a “boil notice” being issued today as well. Updates will be added as they are received.

CCCNews will provide updates as they become available.
